Städtereise Spanien mit der Bahn - Reiseplanung:

A week was planned for the city trip by train through Spain. The journey to Barcelona, the starting point of the tour, was done by plane from Germany.

After a two-days stay, we traveled by train from Barcelona via Granada and Córdoba to Seville.

The Spanish Railways offers special passes for city breaks, which can be used to combine multiple journeys on different types of trains. This makes a trip pleasant and less expensive.

Arrival in Córdoba:

In Córdoba I booked the hotel Eurostars Conquistador for one night. Located in the Jewish part of Cordoba, the accommodation is characterized by its excellent location. The airport is about seven kilometers away and the train station just under two kilometers away. The sights of the old town are in the immediate vicinity.

Upon arrival, you can relax in a traditional Andalusian courtyard with a cool drink and take your time to settle into your room.

In addition, a rich and delicious breakfast buffet is included in the price.

Mosque–Cathedral of Córdoba:

Córdoba's main attraction, the Mosque–Cathedral of Córdoba, is about a 15-minute walk from the hotel. With a floor area of more than 23,000 m², the Mezquita-Catedral de Córdoba is one of the largest sacred buildings in the world. The original mosque was consecrated as a Christian cathedral in 1236 and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1984.

Due to the high demand, you should buy or reserve the tickets in advance to your visit.

The Mosque–Cathedral of Córdoba is not only famous for its size, but also for its architecture.

The horseshoe arches that support the roof of the huge prayer hall are particularly striking. The arches run through the building almost endlessly. They also make the room look even larger.

Córdoba is located on the Guadalquivir, the fifth longest river in Spain. The view of the Mosque–Cathedral of Córdoba with the Roman Bridge in the foreground is probably the city's most famous motif.

The fountain in front of the Mosque–Cathedral of Córdoba is a wonderful place experience the size of the cathedral.

The old town of Córdoba:

On a walk through the winding streets and alleys decorated with flowers in Córdoba, you will find numerous street cafés that invite you to stop off with small but fine delicacies.

In addition, you can watch the hustle and bustle in the old town with a cup of coffee.

The cobbled courtyards between the historic buildings are places to visit as well as to relax.

The view over the old town of Cordoba. The roofs covered with old tiles are another famous feature of the city, whose appearance was strongly influenced by the Romans.

The next afternoon we already continued our journey by train to Seville.

Conclusion:

In Córdoba you can easily stay longer. Just one day to visit the Mosque–Cathedral and the old town is a bit short.

Nevertheless, a stopover in Córdoba is definitely worth it. Especially the Jewish part is an exciting change compared to the Arabic Alhambra in Granada.

Now we continue to Seville with anticipation to discover what awaits us there.
